The Apple MacBook recently hit the shelves in most retail computer stores in North America. The MacBook’s official release date was February 26th 2008 and it came out with a starting from price of $2478.00 - $2499.00. For a laptop with so much power and features this is a great deal for anyone in my opinion. I wouldn’t go out and buy this unless you use a laptop very often though because if you don’t this type of laptop isn’t necessary and you could save yourself a lot of money by buying something that will still fit your needs but fit more into your budget. I still couldn’t help but review the MacBook though, I think it speaks out to me or something and you have to admit it is one nice machine.
This is Apples first update since the MacBook Air and they have done a good job implementing a few new things to this model. The MacBook Pro line received an internal restructuring starting with new Penryn-class Intel CPU’s, touchpad gestures, and the back-up LED option for 17” screens. The update on the CPU was much needed although it didn’t offer too much of a performance boost over the 2007 model. It is however a lot more energy efficient. The LED back-up can be purchased as a $100 add-on now for the 17” inch model, I think it should have been a free upgrade as its common already on the 13” and 15” models.
Instead of just being able to use two fingers for scrolling through the touch pad on the MacBook Air you can now use three fingers to scroll and also now you can use your forefinger and thumb to zoom in and out of documents and pictures. The graphics card allows for some gaming but if you are planning on playing games a lot then I would upgrade the graphics card.
The performance has definitely been increased in this new version of Apples MacBook but has the value from last years update made it worth another $2500.00?
In my opinion this is a superior computer to most and far outruns most laptops I can think of that aren’t customized at all but if you have last years MacBook then I don’t see the reason to spend another $2500.00 on something that hasn’t been improved upon much. If anything you’re paying for a new CPU and use of a couple more fingers on the touch pad gestures system. However if you don’t have a MacBook and you’re currently using another brand of laptop then I would recommended reading further into the Apple MacBook series as it far outperforms most others and the innovation Apple uses is amazing.
